my child has head lice and we’ve tried just about everything to get rid please help! :S?

as we all know all children are bound to catch head lice! Unfortunately my young daughter has had them for a while and we’ve tried just about EVERYTHING from having her hair cut shorter , using olive oil on her hair then combing out the lice using head lice lotions such as full marks and nothing seems to be working! Does anyone have any other remedies/ ideas on what we could do?

Go to the doctor or shave him.

Mayo my mom used that one time ( i think it worked)
Also she combed my hair with a vibrating lice comb (??)

  3. thank you china says:

Medicated lice shampoo should definitely be first in the list of “EVERYTHING” you should try… if you stick with that for a while then it should work. Wash the hair twice a day and comb hair right afterward with a narrow-tooth comb.

  4. Arty says:

My friends mum uses flea shampoo on her kids that might work

  5. The Weird One! says:

Try putting ‘Flex’ conditioner on for around 10 minutes then washing it out. It is made by Revlon.

  6. Baby Girl, Your Girl says:

Try combing it out with vinegar, and use coconut flavored shapmoo. Make sure when combing it if the nits dont come out with the comb then pull them out with your fingers its the only way to keepp them from coming back. the whole ten days later thing is always too late because nits have already hatched and layed more eggs which will hatch and lay more eggs and so on.

  7. Charles says:

Look for a product over the counter that has an insect growth regulator for the eggs. such products as rid. otherwise when the eggs hatch you will be re infested

  8. Dawn says:

there is a shamppo that you can get I just cant thank of the name but good luck

  9. Ladybug says:

Use plenty of conditioner and a fine toothed comb. I found that adding a few drops of T-tree oil in the water in the final hair rinse kept the beggars away!

  10. Legion says:

You need to change her Sheets and Pillows , Put her Stuffed Animals in a Plastic Bag in the Freezer to kill the Lice. You would be surprised where they nest in.

  11. DuskAbsol says:

try rinsing out her hair from hot water to cold water. back and forth this might give a temperature shock and paralyze them. the water would wash it out this worked for me. might not work for your daughter but give it a try. =)

I’m 12 and i had it when i was like 3 years and then i finally had 2 shave ALL my hair off i think that’s the only way that works usually depends on the person’s hair type try your very best to avoid catching the hair lice it’s very hard to get rid of. I’ve heard of soaking your head in tomato juice.

Go to your local pharmacist. Something that a lot of people don’t realize is that lice are able to form a kind of cocoon in the existence of moisture so even if you bath regularly you can still have them. You will most likely need some form of proscription or over the counter head lice remedy. That will do the trick… you could also speak to your doctor about it, they should be able to offer you something potent that will get the job done. Best of Luck…REGULAR SHAMPOOS WILL NOT WORK NO MATTER HOW LONG IT IS IN YOUR HAIR

it is also best to place such things as bedding and stuffed animals as well as clothes and what not in the DRYER for about an hour, not the FREEZER placing your belongings in the freezer makes very little sense because of
    1. restricted space
    2. they can be revived if not done correctly
    3. It would take too long to drop the temperature of the clothes and other belonging because clothes are just that, insulation.

I had lice about a year and a half ago. One weekend I sprayed all my bedding, the couches, anywhere that my head touched with the bedding spray and got a lice-ridding kit from Walmart and after that I didn’t have any sign of them. Hope this helps!

The best solution for that is shampoo medication for lice.

Wash the hair twice a day or maybe more indicated depending on how much lice is in their hair. It’s also because of the heat. Lice just love living on heads with hot sweat and in a hot atmosphere *shudder*. They suck blood out, and therefore they tend to get itchy, scratching them. Try not to. And make sure their scalps are exposed to a cool area.

Believe me, I got unbelievable lice in the Philippines and it was so irritating. We also used a lice comb (a really toothed one to catch all of the lice.) I hope this works. :) Don’t worry, do it for about a week or so and then it should start going away.

And we were also careful not to share combs, pillows or things. The cocoons grow more and live on the strands of hair, hatching, and if they get in contact with someone else’s head, they’ll get lice too. Try to speak to a doctor, as well, so they could see the type of lice you had and how bad it is. Hopefully it’s not. :)

Yes. Go buy the head lice shampoo at the store. On top of using head lice shampoo, make sure you change the sheets on her bad and pillow daily and washing them in hot water. Same with her clothing. If your washer has a sanitary wash, use that one because it will use the hottest water possible and that should kill the lice that are left in the sheets and pillow case. Make sure that you clean the house and everything she comes in contact with. I’ve never had them and neither has my children, but that is something I pray that we never get because of how difficult it is to get rid of them. good luck. If all of this does not work, then make a call to the doctor.

Go to your local drugstore and ask the pharmacy there for a good brand of shampoo for getting rid of head lice. I know it is expensive cause we had to use it once when one of my children’s class room got it years ago. It usually works great but the cost is rather high but worth the effort. Or take her to the doctor or call in to the doctors office and inquire. Possibly give you a prescription.
    Good Luck.

I got lice 2 times this summer due to the fact I was a counselor at a girl scout camp…little kids..oy! Anyway make sure you wash everything and if its stuffed animals put them in the dryer for 20 min. on high. Also if you cant wash something put it in trashbags for 2 weeks. Untill you kill all the lice in your house they will continue to return.. also for follow up after you rid the lice make your kids use tea tree oil shampoo (lice dont like it). If all fails SHAVE THE HEAD…a little harsh but..hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do!
    Hope this helps!

The old standby is Mayo, not olive oil!
My doctor recommended lice shampoo when my kid got it. Worked great! The thing is, you have to treat everything, not just the kid. You must wash all bedding, clothes, coats, hats, etc in very hot water (or have them dry cleaned). Anything that can’t be washed (such as mattresses) must be steam cleaned or sprayed with a lice-killing spray. Stuffed animals, etc, should be put into garbage bags and stored away for two weeks.
The other thing is, you should comb out the nits using a special nit removing comb. All family members and their belongings, as well as shared areas, should be treated. It is a lot of work, but is the only way to be absolutely sure the problem is solved.
After the first time, I made sure my daughter understood the importance of not sharing hats, combs, brushes, etc. with her friends. Prevention is the best medicine!

My kids have had head lice too. The only real solution has been an aggressive program of repeated treatments with a product called Rid, combing with a fine tooth comb made for that purpose, changing the bedding, and killing whatever got in to the stuffed animals of theirs. Then repeat again and again till the infestation ends. That goes for the everyone in the family too. Parents, siblings, dogs, and cats. Sorry, it is not just one child you have to take care of but everyone. Then repeat it a couple of more times.

If your not doing that, then the whole cycle just goes back around again.

when daughter had lice i use mayo and cover her hair then let it set for a hour then wash it out and comb through her fair. The mayo smoothes them. You got to keep combin her hair. Also call the doc to get help like i did. but i had to keep combin that the doc says. some times it takes a days or week to work out. good luck to you.

I know your dilema. When our kids got head lice, we felt like we had somehow let our kids down. We were embarrased and these little critters made US feel dirty and a little bit inadequate. In our minds we could hear the other parents talking about us, although I’m sure that was only our perception.

I’ve heard of some people using mayonaise when the pyretherine treatments didn’t work. I also found an interesting story from a woman who was riddled with constant infestation and finally found a way to put it behind her. You might find it interesting.
